At Mt Olive Baptist Church, we have a simple hope: to see people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. For 186 years, our church has spread God's good news here in our hometown and throughout the world. Whether you've been attending church for years or haven't stepped into a sanctuary in decades, we hope you'll come and join us Sunday.
When you come to join us for the first time, one of our greeters will be glad to help you become comfortable. If you'd like, they'll help you find the nursery (which is fully staffed and safely run), restrooms, and sanctuary. In fact, we are currently renovating the education wing of our building to better minister to infants, toddlers, and school age children; our restrooms, security, and adult Sunday School rooms are also being updated. Our renovations should be completed in Spring 2021.
During the service, you'll hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, prayers we offer up and our pastor's preaching. All parts of our service are grounded in the Bible, which we are committed to upholding. No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us on Sunday. Here at Mt Olive Baptist Church, you'll find people of all sizes, stripes and backgrounds; we welcome everyone--including you. Our services start at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday.
We are a Southern Baptist Church that upholds the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. In accordance with this document, we believe in one God who eternally exists in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully human. He was crucified for our sins, buried and physically resurrected from the dead on the third day. We believe human beings were created morally good and in the image of God. However, by disobedience, sin came into the world and has caused untold suffering, pain and death. Worst, it has caused separation from God. However, the Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ has come to pay the penalty in place of the guilty and restore freedom and fellowship with God. Salvation is possible only by faith in Jesus Christ and His work, not by human effort. We believe the Bible is divinely inspired and inerrant in the original manuscripts. Since we believe in the inspiration and authority of God’s Word, our church seeks to use the Bible as our guide in all we do. We believe the local church is body of believers who agree to meet together to worship God and advance the Gospel. The church is made up of members who have made of profession of faith in Jesus Christ and followed Him in believer’s baptism. The church recognizes two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
